Kroger Gives Me Gas (for Cheaper)

What is gas priced in your neighborhood today? For us it ranges from $3.79 - $3.97 for regular (that's along a 20-mile stretch of interstate). What can be done? My car is semi-economical (it gets about 30-35 miles per gallon); I work 33 miles from my house; none of my coworkers live near me. I have to go to work and I can't ride with anyone. How do I keep gas costs down?

The easiest way is to buy the cheapest (but clean) gas. I do this by grocery shopping at Kroger.

You see, in our area I have the option of doing my grocery shopping at Kroger, Food Lion, or Wal-Mart. Food Lion is far above and beyond the others in cost, so I only go there for big-ticket sale items. Kroger doubles coupons up to $0.50 at our store and Wal-Mart is generally cheaper without coupons. When I compare the savings with doubled coupons at Kroger vs the non-doubled coupon savings at WM, they come out pretty evenly across the entire grocery list.

I have begun, therefore to shop at Kroger because a new store has been built between my work and home that has a gas station attached. With a Kroger card, you automatically get $0.03 off the posted price. Sometimes that makes it right around the lowest amounts in the area. However, the big savings come when I've spent more than $100 in groceries at Kroger. The gas then is $0.10 cheaper than the posted price making it certainly the cheapest in the area! The only catch is that once your gotten this deal, you have to spend another $100 before getting it again. It works for at least a couple of tanks a month usually.

Since the grocery amounts are about equal between the two stores, I have chosen Kroger for their ability to help me save more on gas. It Works for Me.

We do the same, but our grocers offer 10 cents off for every $50 spent (but unfortunately it's too easy to spend that much regularly). We also buy gift cards from the grocery store for places we usually go like Home Depot and Joann's to get gas discounts on those too!

I love that Kroger (Food 4 Less in our area) does this! It absolutely makes it the cheapest place to buy gas! They also offer 15 cents off per gallon when you spend $150 or more (sad that I know that from experience). Every little bit helps!

I'm glad you priced this out comparing the groceries. Now I don't have to--I can just keep buying my stuff at Kroger and feel pretty sure it's the right thing to do!

Oh, I wish I had a Kroger nearby! Sounds like a good deal.

This sounds like the same deal our local Fred Meyer Store has...which might be because they bought out Kroger a couple years ago (or something like that).

Sounds like you're a smart shopper; NOT that I hadn't figured that out already;)

I added you to my blogroll by the way as Mrs.Nespy- bargain finder (no pressure there:).

So I'm responding back to you off subject of this post.....
About the books, I LOVE to read. Plus I have to read a lot of different type stuff for church and Women's Ministry not to mention, I LOVE Christian fiction. Add all that together and I read alot. I wish I had more time. I haven't read anything in about a week. I am really behind!

I can't believe I have never tried that. I LOVE my Kroger plus card and completely forgot I could use it for gas!
