Giveaway - Safety Tat - CLOSED

Giveaway now closed. Congrats to winners Latoshia and Brooke!

It's a horror that many have faced. It's one we, as parents, all fear. Losing your child in public can be a terrifying experience.

Have you taught your child what to do in the event you get separated in public?

It's a hard subject to approach for me. I want my son to understand that there is danger in being separated and that not all people are good for him to go with. But how can I do this without making him fearful of the general public?

Well, SafetyTat is on a mission to help with just that.

SafetyTat is the brainchild of a mom of three who understands that horror...even if it is just imagined and has never happened. She came up with the idea of a temporary tattoo that identifies your child as yours without giving away vital information to the "bad guys."

Perfect for theme parks, shopping malls, airports, fairs, traveling, zoos, stadiums, playgrounds, scout trips, field trips, and many, many more occasions.

The original SafetyTat is a temporary tattoo preprinted with your cell phone number on it, to assist a responsible adult in getting in touch with you without giving away the child's name or your home phone number to strangers. Brilliant idea, in my opinion!

I got to try out their newer "model," the Quick Stick Write-On! SafetyTat which comes blank with a special pen for you to use to write the applicable mobile number on the tattoo yourself. This one was much more useful to our family because if Chip and I are together, he's more likely to have his phone available, but if I have the kids myself, I would have my phone available. So this gives us the flexibility to use either according to circumstance.

And additionally, there are allergy tats that alert people to your child's allergy and who to contact in case of exposure. Brilliant, I tell you!

And you don't have to settle for the "standard" selection...you can create your own with your choice of icons, colors, and messages.

So what was our experience?

We received our "boy" samples in the mail. I was immediately excited to find safety tips inside the packaging that gave me some great ideas on how to help educate our children without frightening them. Thanks!

Well, of course Patrick LOVED the idea of the tattoo. What kid doesn't? In fact, we had just washed off a different temporary tattoo two days before.

We applied his on a day that we were going downtown (Savannah, GA), which isn't terribly crowded, but right now at the peak of tourist season, Saturday late morning is about as hustle-and-bustle as it gets around here.

The application was simple. We used the directions and alcohol pad that came in the packet and it worked like a charm. Using the pen on the tattoo was effortless too (except for the fact that it is hard to write on my son's skinny arm). By the way...I blurred most of the phone number in the pic above so all of my adoring fans won't be calling me. =)

Patrick commented that it felt like a band-aid on his arm, which is similar I guess in its application process. It held better than any bandage we've ever tried though, but was not too hard to peel off. We did follow the recommendation to put it on a hairless part of his body and it's a good thing, because I think it would have pulled a lot of hair otherwise.

Of course we didn't stage Patrick getting lost to see if it would work, but I can definitely see that it could easily be a great tool. I'm going to hang on to the remainder of our samples to use for our trips into the great world of crowds.

  18. Hi Kaye!
I learned "According to the manufacturer's safety data sheets (MSDS), various Sharpies contain: n-propanol, n-butanol, diacetone alcohol, xylene, and cresol. The first of these, n-propanol, is commonly used in cosmetics. The other four, however, are industrial solvents, chemicals that should not be sniffed, eaten, or put on the skin. As solvents they penetrate the skin and fingernails, and do enter the bloodstream."
I had no idea that Sharpies are that bad for you and not to use it to write on yourself or others
    Thanks so much!
